Hi vancouver lj

I would like to buy a $200 book from amazon.ca. since it is a canadian website does it means that I will not have to pay custom charges? of course I would still pay regular tax

cus for ebay international stuff items over $20 there is $5 handling fee + customs fees.

**side note...where do I go to buy leg warmers?

Jan. 7th, 2010 @ 02:12 pm Best dealership in Vancouver/burbs to buy a car... and go.
Question for those of you who bought a car from a dealer: which dealer did you end up buying your car from? I'm looking for a pleasant experience (see below).

I know dealerships have this certain.. um.. reputation - I mean check out Google ratings on car dealers in the lower mainland - majority of them have about 1 out of 5 stars...

Suggestions?

TIA

Jan. 6th, 2010 @ 10:38 pm Brunch
Hello,

My colleagues and I are looking for a good place to go for a New Years brunch on Saturday the 16th. I know the topic of brunch has been discussed to death in this community over the years, but I have a couple of specific requirements (and the memories don't get updated):

- we will likely have at least eight people, and might need to add an extra person or two at the last minute, so all of the lovely but small breakfast joints in the city won't work.
- it has to be reasonably priced - not more than $20 including taxes and tip and whatnot.
- a few people will be driving in from the 'burbs so they would prefer if there is easy parking nearby - which makes Broadway more attractive than downtown.
- it has to be at least decently healthy. The likes of Denny's and White Spot are absolutely NOT what we are looking for.
- this is really just a personal one, but who has good, homemade hashbrowns? I like big chunks of potatoes with my eggs, not deep fried mushy stuff.

My own suggestion is O'Doul's on Robson because average brunch entrees are between $13-$16, they take reservations, their food is delicious and they can easily seat large parties.

Honestly, if there's nothing that suits us better, I'll just try and push them to go for O'Doul's... I just know that my suburbanite colleagues don't want to deal with driving downtown.

Do any of the hotels on Broadway have restaurants which would suit our needs?

Thanks!

I want to buy multiple blank American Apparel t-shirts for screenprinting. Is there somewhere that I can buy these locally for bargain-cheap, or can I buy them bargain-cheap at american apparel (the store)? Their website seems to list their plain ol' t-shirts at 18.00 and that is, quite frankly, way the hell too expensive.

Alternatively, does anybody know of a non-skeazy/dependable website where I could order these t-shirts in semi-bulk for a better price? Is expecting these shirts at 5-6 bucks a pop totally unreasonable? I mean, that's still a profit margin for them of approximately $5.75.

Thanks. You're a pal(s).

So I'm just watching Global News right now, and there was a story about how during the Olympics, Translink is allowing this religious group, More than Gold, to stand around skytrain stations, pestering people. Thank fucking goodness I will be in Maui!

Jan. 5th, 2010 @ 05:44 pm dress
Hey Vancouver
My business partner and I are doing an edgy bridal portrait shoot for a new direction we are taking our wedding photography business, and are in need of a couple of wedding dresses for this Saturday. We are happy to rent them or pay a deposit for their use, or if you have a simple white gown (doesn't have to be a wedding dress) that you would like to sell for a reasonable price please let me know. We looked at buying one, and the prices are just too out of our budget. They will be used indoors in a studio with professional models so they will be safe!

Specific style of the shoot? Think rockabilly/ funky/ 50s retro, so a simple dress is better.

Jan. 5th, 2010 @ 01:55 pm Climbing Shoes
Hello,

I need beginner climbing shoes. Cliffhanger's $5 rental fee will add up quickly over time, and won't help me in the summer when I go climbing outside.

I've found these for $79 at MEC. Should I just go with this, or should I shop around a little more? (I have a tendency to just stick with MEC because it's so convenient.) Where else could I go in Van for climbing shoes? Does Coast Mountain Sports sell them? Their website gives no info. Can anyone recommend a particular shop on West 4th or on Broadway near MEC (two areas where outdoor sporting good shops have conglomerated)?

Thanks!

Any leads on where I can donate my mac g4?
I know, it's a desktop and it's a mac *and* it only has OSX so chances are slim it's needed anywhere but better than chucking it out right?

That being said I also have an adolecent sized life jacket (60-90lbs)....

Cheers!

Current Mood: awake
I've changed internet providers-Shaw arrived this morning to hook up the connection which was when i discovered that their service isn't wireless.

So if i don't want to be stuck in one spot i need to buy a wireless router. Any advice on what would be the best one to buy (i use a macbook) that won't lead to me pulling my hair out in frustration?? I'm an idiot when it comes to technology setup!

Thanks in advance :)

What is your favorite place to pick up a loaf of fancy (or just plain good) artisan bread? Price vs quality?

Just a heads up.... now they're charging $2 for same day pick up.... and they're still offering their usual shitty customer service.

Christ, I hope they all fall off a cliff. Or something.

*grumble*

Sorry, just need to rant!

Where is the best place to go old-fashioned 10 pin bowling? I am looking for a place full of hairy old guys who would be smoking like a chimney, if only smoking like a chimney were legal in a bowling alley.

Edit: While I'm at it with the gizzardly old-folks pursuits, can anybody tell me where I can find a good place do some honky-tonkin' square/line dancing? Preferably with live fiddle playin' and stompin' and no shortage of pigtail-toting Susie-Mays. Preferably a place where they will also teach said square/line dancing, because that is a skill I do not as of yet possess. Many thanks.

Hey Guys.. well Ladies,

I'm looking into bikini waxing and I was wondering if anyone has any reasonably priced salons or favorite technicians. I live in north van and go to UBC so if there is a place close to either of those spots it would be preferable for sure. Also does anyone have any helpful tips or anecdotes.. I'm a wee bit nervous...?

Just some tips for those of you with spawn: there is a store on Broadway called Nadex and they are going out of business and have tons of REALLY CUTE baby outdoor gear for $1 right now. Also London Drugs has ridiculous deals on toys right now, they are marked down to like 90% off.

That's it =)

Where's a good place for manicures that is nice but not too expensive? I'm thinking the $30-40 and under range, in a salon or spa environment.

Thanks!
